Our Tip of the Month comes from Malissa Burgdorf, RN:
February is American Heart Month. A healthy diet is essential in prevention of heart disease. The American Heart Association recommends to have these foods in your diet:
A variety of fruits and vegetables (fresh and frozen vegetables are best), fiber rich whole grains, lean meats,
a variety of fish at least two times per week for the health benefit of omega 3s, low fat dairy products, nuts and legumes.
Avoid nutrient poor foods such as processed food, foods with added sugar, high sodium foods, and replace saturated and trans fats with monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats.
A healthy diet along with regular exercise will reduce the risk of developing heart disease
